Ticket Limit Reached on Discord: What It Means and How to Fix It

Ticket limit reached on Discord means you already have a ticket open on that panel. How to find and close it, and how an admin changes the limit.

The message usually reads something like "Ticket limit reached. You already have 1 tickets open of the 1 allowed for this panel." The wording changes from bot to bot. The cause does not.

Nearly every Discord ticket bot gives each member a fixed number of open tickets per panel, and a panel is the message with the button you pressed. The number is usually one. Press the button with a ticket already open and the bot refuses, by design.

What does "ticket limit reached" mean on Discord?

It means you already have as many open tickets on that panel as the server allows. The bot checks this before it creates anything, so no channel appears and nothing reaches staff.

Three things it is not. It is not a cooldown, so waiting an hour changes nothing. It is not a count of every ticket you ever opened, only the ones open right now. And it is not a punishment: a blocked member gets a different message.

On AI Ticket Bot the refusal looks like this, and only the member who pressed the button can see it:

You've reached your ticket limit. You already have 1/1 open tickets in this panel. Please close one before opening another.

The two numbers are the useful part. The first is how many tickets of yours the bot counts as open on that panel. The second is how many the server allows.

How do you fix it as a member?

Find the ticket you already have and close it. These steps work on any server. The third is for servers running AI Ticket Bot.

  1. Look through the channel list

Scroll for a channel named after a ticket number or your username. Open every collapsed category, because a collapsed one hides channels with nothing unread

  2. Check the threads

Some servers open tickets as private threads. Go to the channel that holds the ticket button and press the Threads icon at the top. A thread that went quiet leaves your channel list but is still listed there

  3. Ask the bot

Run /mytickets. It lists your tickets on that server, and an open one comes with a button that jumps straight to it

  4. Close it

Press the Close button in the ticket. If there is none for you, say in the ticket that it is solved and can be closed

  5. Ask staff if you are stuck

Tell a staff member you get the limit message. They cannot see it on their side, so say which button you pressed

Then press the ticket button again. On AI Ticket Bot the place is free the moment the old ticket closes.

If your question is new but the old ticket is still open, you often do not need a second ticket at all. Write in the one you have. Opening a ticket covers what the bot checks on every press, and ticket history covers everything /mytickets shows, including that it works in a direct message with the bot.

Why does it say you have a ticket open when you cannot see one?

Because the ticket is still open on the bot's side, and something is hiding it from you. The bot counts its own records, not what is on your screen.

What happenedWhy it still countsWhat to do
The ticket is a thread that went quietDiscord drops quiet threads from the channel list. The ticket stays openThreads icon on the panel's channel
The category is collapsedThe channel is there, only hiddenOpen the category
Staff claimed the ticketA claimed ticket is still an open ticketCarry on in it, or close it
You used a different option on the same panelThe limit covers the whole panel, not each optionUse the ticket you have
Staff opened a ticket for youIt is your ticket and it takes your placeRun /mytickets

The first three are true of Discord and of ticket bots in general. The last two are how AI Ticket Bot counts: the limit is shared by every category on a panel, and a ticket a staff member opens on your behalf is recorded as yours. Ticket claiming covers what a claim changes, which is less than most people expect.

One more case: somebody deleted the ticket channel by hand instead of closing the ticket. AI Ticket Bot treats that as a close. It closes the ticket when its channel or thread is deleted and frees the place. If a bot keeps counting a ticket whose channel is gone, only that server's staff can clear it, so ask them.

How does an admin change the ticket limit?

In the panel's settings. It is one number for each panel. This part is about AI Ticket Bot, where every line below can be checked on the free plan.

The ticket limit, setting by setting

Name
Open tickets per member
Where, in the dashboard
The panel editor, under Tickets
Where, in Discord
/panel, pick the panel, then Ticket Limit
Starts at
1 on every plan
Highest you can set
1 on Free, 3 on Premium, 5 on Pro. Enterprise is set per deal
What it counts
A member's open and claimed tickets on that panel, across all its categories
Who it applies to
Everyone who opens a ticket, admins and the owner included

A change applies from the next press of the button. Tickets already open are not touched.

What does not exist matters as much. There is no limit for the whole server, and none on how many tickets a member opens over time. There is no separate limit per category. And nothing caps how many tickets can be open on a panel in total, so this setting cannot pause new tickets. Unpublishing the panel does that.

If you move to a lower plan, the number you set is kept and the lower plan's maximum applies until you upgrade again. Live pricing shows the current maximum for each plan.

Should you raise the limit?

Usually not. One open ticket per member is right for most servers. The limit is what stops one person opening five tickets about the same problem, and it is part of stopping spam tickets.

Keep it at one

  • One conversation per member, so staff never answer the same person twice
  • Duplicate tickets are refused before they exist
  • Staff see one open ticket per person in the queue

Raise it

  • A member can have a billing ticket and a report open together
  • Members with several orders or accounts are not held up
  • Staff can see several open tickets from one person

Raise it when members really do have separate problems at the same time, as in a shop with several orders. Otherwise leave it.

A second panel is the other route. Each panel counts on its own, so a support panel and an appeals panel give every member one place on each. The free plan has one panel, so this is for paid plans.

How do you stop members hitting the limit?

Close tickets when they are finished. A member who gets this message is nearly always a member with an old ticket nobody closed. Raising the limit hides that for a while and then the queue is twice as long.

  • Leave "Close their own ticket" on. It is on by default, and it lets a member free their own place
  • Close a ticket when the question is answered. A member with a follow-up can open a new one
  • Turn on the inactivity close, on paid plans, so a ticket the member abandoned does not hold their place forever
  • Clear a stale queue from the dashboard's ticket list, where you can close up to 100 tickets in one go
  • Put one line on the panel: "Already have a ticket? Use that one"

Closing a ticket covers who can close and what a close sends, and auto-close settings covers the inactivity close.

What the limit message leaves out

The honest list, for AI Ticket Bot.

Good fit

  • The refusal is instant and private, and nothing is created
  • Closing frees the place at once, with no waiting period
  • /mytickets finds the open ticket from anywhere, even a direct message with the bot

Not the right call

  • The message does not link to the ticket that is holding the place
  • Staff are not told when a member is refused, and it is not written to any log
  • There is no limit per category, only per panel
  • No role is exempt, so a trusted member is held to the same number
  • It cannot cap the total number of open tickets on a server

The second limit is the one to plan around. A member who is refused and cannot find their old ticket has no way to reach you through the panel, and you will not know. That is why the line on the panel and a tidy queue matter more than the number itself.

Frequently asked questions

It means the server's ticket bot counted a ticket you already have open on that panel, and the server allows only that many at the same time. It is a setting on the bot, not a Discord error and not a ban. Close the ticket you have open and you can open a new one straight away.

Find the ticket you already have open and close it. Look through the channel list, including collapsed categories, and check the Threads icon on the channel that holds the ticket button. On AI Ticket Bot, run /mytickets to get a button that jumps to your open ticket. If you cannot find it or cannot close it, ask the server's staff to close it for you.

Because the ticket is still open on the bot's side and something is hiding it. The usual causes are a ticket thread that went quiet and dropped out of your channel list, a collapsed category, a ticket staff opened for you, or one you opened under a different option of the same panel. A ticket that staff have claimed still counts as open too.

In the settings of the panel. On AI Ticket Bot it is called Open tickets per member and it is one number per panel, set in the dashboard's panel editor under Tickets or in Discord through /panel and the Ticket Limit button. It starts at 1. The highest you can set is 1 on the free plan, 3 on Premium and 5 on Pro.

Yes. A claimed ticket is still an open ticket, it only has a staff member's name on it. On AI Ticket Bot the limit counts every ticket of yours on that panel that is open or claimed, across all of the panel's categories. Only closing a ticket frees the place.

Not on AI Ticket Bot. The limit applies to everyone who opens a ticket, including admins and the owner, and no role is exempt. Staff who open a ticket for a member are refused too if that member is already at the limit on that panel. Closing the member's old ticket first is the way through.
