How to Reset a Discord AI Bot's Memory, and When Not To

Sooner or later somebody asks for the big red button. The AI said something wrong in front of a member, or the server changed what it is about, or you took over a server and have no idea what the last admin taught it. Wiping the lot and starting clean sounds tidy.

Sometimes it is exactly right. More often, one wrong answer is one wrong memory, and deleting everything to fix it throws away months of good answers with it. This guide covers what a reset on our bot deletes and keeps, when it is the right call, how to run it, and how to rebuild afterwards. The same questions are worth asking of any Discord ticket bot that learns from your staff, because "reset" means very different things from one product to the next.

What does resetting the AI delete?

Everything the AI learned for your server, and nothing else. A reset works on the AI's memory, not on the bot, so your panels, tickets and settings carry on as if nothing happened.

The summary and rules are the part people miss. They are the short description of your server and the standing instructions the AI builds up from what it has been taught, and they go with the memories they came from. A reset that kept them would leave the fresh AI following rules nobody remembers writing.

Every place the AI answers uses the same memory, so a reset empties it everywhere at once: in tickets, in an AI answer channel, and in the chat on your website if you run one.

Should you reset, or fix one memory?

Fix one memory unless the whole memory is wrong. Most bad answers come from a single entry: a price that changed, a rule that was reworded, an event that ended. Correcting it takes a minute and keeps everything else.

The Memory tab and /ai memory let you search every entry, describe a change in plain words and let the AI apply it, or delete one outright. A reset earns its place in four situations:

• The server changed what it is. A new game, a rebrand, a shop that became a community. Old facts about the old thing are not wrong one at a time, they are all wrong together.
• You inherited the server. Nobody can tell you what the last team taught it, and reading hundreds of entries to find out takes longer than teaching the few dozen that matter.
• A big import went wrong. Somebody crawled the wrong website, or trained an old policy document, and the result is spread across more entries than anyone will find by hand.
• Contradictions everywhere. Several people taught the same topics differently over months, and the answers now depend on which entry wins.

If none of those fit, you probably want the Memory list rather than the button.

How do you reset the AI?

From Discord with /ai reset, or from the dashboard, and only with Manage Server. Staff roles cannot reset the AI, whatever else they are allowed to do, and the bot checks your permission again at the moment the reset runs rather than trusting the screen you opened earlier.

Both routes run the same reset, so there is no difference in what gets deleted. Choose whichever you have open.

The reset is written to your server's audit log: who pressed it, when, whether it came from Discord or the dashboard, and how many tickets it freed. If a reset surprises your team, that is where to look.

What happens to tickets right after a reset?

They keep getting answers, from an AI that knows nothing about your server yet. The AI is not switched off, and nothing about your panels changes. It answers the next ticket on the same model, with the same reply limits and the same handover rules.

What it has lost is everything specific to you. An AI that was never told your refund window will not make one up, so it hands the question to your staff instead. For the first hours after a reset, expect far more handovers than usual. That is the AI behaving correctly, not breaking.

If you would rather it stayed quiet while you rebuild, switch the AI off for your panels before you reset and back on when it is ready. Tickets still open and reach your staff while it is off.

How do you teach it again?

Start with the setup conversation, then the questions members actually ask. After a dashboard reset, the confirmation offers a Set it up button that opens the chat's setup: four short questions about what the server is, what people ask about, what to leave to staff, and a name for it, turned into one lesson.

From there, rebuild in the order that pays back fastest:

The last line is new. Tickets you once used to improve the AI carry a mark so they cannot be used twice by accident. A reset clears those marks, because the knowledge they taught is gone, so each of those tickets can teach the fresh AI again. Learning from your tickets covers how that works. One limit applies: a ticket can only teach while its conversation is still stored, so tickets older than your plan keeps transcripts cannot be reused.

Training spends your AI allowance, the same as the first time. A few dozen well written facts cost very little, while large documents and whole websites cost more, so bring those back only if they were right the first time.

Why would a reset be refused?

Nearly always because a training run is writing to memory at that moment. A reset waits until nothing is being written, so a run halfway through can never leave half a memory behind the wipe.

In every one of those cases nothing was deleted. A reset either goes through completely or does not happen at all.

What a reset cannot do

The honest list, before you press it.

Two of those are worth a sentence more. If you might want any of the old knowledge back, write the important facts down before you reset, because afterwards nothing will show you what was there. And a reset is not how a member's data is removed: a member can ask for their data to be exported or erased under our privacy policy, which covers far more than the AI's memory.

A reset is also much smaller than removing the bot. Removing the bot deletes everything tied to your server forty eight hours after it leaves, panels, transcripts and audit log included. If what you want is a fresh AI, reset the AI and keep the rest.
