What Happens When You Close a Ticket on Discord?
Closing a Discord ticket ends the conversation, saves a transcript and removes the channel. What members and staff keep, and how to see closed tickets.

A ticket is a private channel between a member and the server's staff. Closing it is how that channel is put away when the question is answered. The exact details depend on the bot, so the general answer comes first and the details for AI Ticket Bot follow.
What happens the moment a ticket is closed?
Three things, in this order: the conversation is saved, the member is told, and the channel is put away.
- Close is pressed
- Transcript saved
- Member gets a message
- Channel removed or locked
On AI Ticket Bot there is no countdown and no "are you sure" step. The channel disappears as soon as the copy is saved. What "put away" means depends on how the server set its tickets up.
Channel tickets
- The ticket channel is deleted at once
- Nobody can read it in Discord afterwards
- The saved copy is the only record
Thread tickets
- The thread is locked and archived, not deleted
- The member is removed from it. Staff can still open it
- The saved copy and the locked thread both exist
In both cases the place the ticket held is free again. A member who was at the server's ticket limit can open a new one straight away.
What does the member get?
A direct message from the bot. On AI Ticket Bot it is titled "Your ticket has been closed" and carries these parts.
The close message, part by part
- The server
- Name and icon, so you know which ticket it was
- Ticket and category
- The ticket's name and the type you picked
- Closed by
- Who closed it. The bot itself for an automatic close
- Reason
- Shown when the closer gave one
- View Transcript
- A link to the saved conversation
- Leave Feedback
- A one to five star rating with an optional note
A server can switch parts of this off, so your message may be shorter. If your direct messages are closed to the bot, the message does not arrive, and the ticket is closed and saved all the same. Ticket bot DMs lists every message the bot can send you.
One case sends nothing: a member who leaves the server. The bot closes their ticket, saves the copy for staff, and does not message someone who has left.
Who can close a ticket, and does it mean something went wrong?
No. Most closes are simply the end of a solved question. These are the ways a ticket closes on AI Ticket Bot, and what the member is told.
| How it closed | What the member sees |
|---|---|
| The member pressed Close | The close message, with their own name as the closer |
| Staff closed it | The close message, with the staff member and any reason |
| Nobody wrote for a long time | A warning first, then the close message with the reason Inactivity |
| The member answered Yes to "Can we close this ticket?" | The close message |
| The member pressed "Solved, close it" on a reminder | A short thanks, and the ticket closes |
| Someone deleted the channel by hand | A message that the channel was deleted, with the transcript |
If the Close button is missing or refuses you, the server has turned off closing by members. The bot then says that only staff can close tickets, and a staff member will do it. How to close a ticket covers the staff side, and close requests covers the Yes or No question.
Can a closed ticket be reopened?
Not on AI Ticket Bot, and not on most bots that delete the channel. A close is final for members and for staff. There is nothing left to reopen once the channel is gone.
If you still need help, open a new ticket and say it continues an earlier one. The staff can read the earlier transcript, so you do not have to explain everything again. A new ticket gets a new number.
This is why a careful staff member asks before closing. If your ticket was closed too early, a new ticket is the fix, and saying so politely in the first line works better than anything else.
How do you see your closed tickets?
Through the bot. Discord has no list of closed tickets, because for Discord the channel no longer exists.
Use the link you were sent
The close message has a View Transcript button. It works for as long as the copy is kept
Run /mytickets
In the server, or in a direct message with the bot. It lists the tickets you opened
Open the one you want
Each ticket shows when it was opened and closed. Closed ones have a Read transcript button
Or use the website
Signing in to the dashboard with Discord shows the same list on your account page
/mytickets works even after you leave the server. It shows your own tickets only, and it does not show who claimed or closed them. If the copy has passed its keeping time, the bot says the saved conversation is no longer available. On AI Ticket Bot that time is 90 days on a server using the free plan and 730 days on a paid one.
Ticket history goes through everything that command shows.
How do staff view closed tickets?
In three places, none of which is the old channel.
- Where is the quickest record?
- The log channel. Each close is posted there with the opener, the closer, the reason and the transcript link, on every plan
- How do you find one old ticket?
/ticket searchinside Discord, filtered by member, date, who closed it or words in the close reason- Where is the full list?
- The ticket list in the web dashboard, for the owner or anyone with Manage Server
Reading a transcript needs the right permission: the member who opened the ticket, Manage Server, or a staff role allowed to read transcripts. Ticket logs and ticket search cover the first two in full.
What a close cannot do
The honest list, for AI Ticket Bot.
Good fit
- The conversation is always saved before the channel goes
- The member is told who closed it and why
- Members can find their own closed tickets without asking anyone
Not the right call
- A closed ticket cannot be reopened, by anyone
- The rating can only be given from the close message. If that message did not arrive, there is no second way
- The saved copy expires: 90 days on Free, 730 on paid plans
- A member who left the server gets no close message
The first limit is the one that surprises people. Treat a close as final, and ask "anything else?" before pressing it. Any Discord ticket bot that deletes the channel works the same way.

Frequently asked questions
The conversation ends, the bot saves a copy of it called a transcript, and the ticket channel is removed or locked. The member who opened the ticket usually gets a direct message with a link to the transcript. Nobody is banned, kicked or reported. Closing only means the conversation is finished.
On most ticket bots, no. On AI Ticket Bot a closed ticket cannot be reopened by anyone, staff included. If you still need help, open a new ticket and mention the old one. The staff can read the saved copy of the earlier conversation.
Discord itself keeps no list, so it depends on the bot. On AI Ticket Bot, run /mytickets in the server or in a direct message with the bot. It lists the tickets you opened, and each closed one has a Read transcript button while the saved copy still exists. The link in the close message opens the same transcript.
Through the bot, because the channel is gone. On AI Ticket Bot staff can use /ticket search inside Discord, the log channel where each close is posted with its transcript link, and the ticket list in the web dashboard for the owner or anyone with Manage Server.
It removes the channel, not the record. With channel tickets the channel is deleted the moment the ticket closes. With thread tickets the thread is locked and kept. Either way the bot saves a transcript first. On AI Ticket Bot that copy is kept for 90 days on the free plan and 730 days on paid plans.
On AI Ticket Bot, yes. The message the member receives names who closed the ticket and shows the reason if one was given. When the bot closed it automatically, for example after a long silence, it says so and gives the reason.
