Discord AI Bot That Can Search the Web and Read Links
A Discord AI bot that searches the web and opens links: pages, PDFs, public Google Docs and Sheets, video details. What it reads, the cost, how to turn it off.

Members paste links all day: event rules in a Google Doc, a price sheet, a patch note, a video. An AI that cannot open them sees a line of text and has to guess. In October 2026 the setting called Web search became Web access, because it now does two jobs: it searches, and it opens links.
Can a Discord AI bot search the web?
Yes, as a fallback, not a first stop. The AI looks in what your staff taught it first. Your products, prices and rules have to come from there, because a search engine does not know your refund window. Only when that has nothing, and the answer depends on something public or current, does it search: whether a game's servers are down, what changed in a public update.
It runs up to three searches for one answer and replies in its own words. The search terms it writes go to Brave Search. The conversation never does. That order is what separates an AI ticket bot for Discord from a chat bot with a search box.
What links can it open?
Most public links people share on Discord. It opens a link a member sends, and a link that is part of what you taught it, such as your status page. It opens one when the answer depends on the page, not every link it sees.
What Web access reads
- Web pages
- The main text, without menus and cookie banners
- PDF and Word files
- The text of the document
- Google Docs
- The text, when anyone with the link can view it
- Google Sheets
- One tab, as rows and columns
- Google Slides and Drive files
- The text or the file, when public
- Dropbox and GitHub files
- The file, when the link is public
- RSS and Atom feeds
- The posts listed, with their dates
- Images
- The picture itself, which the AI looks at
- YouTube and Vimeo
- The video's details, not the video
It reads the whole page, not a snippet. A search result is a title and a few lines. Opening the link gives the AI the page itself. A long page or PDF comes in parts, and the AI goes to the part that answers the question, so a full handbook is readable. It reads the link as it is now: edit the doc, and a question a few minutes later gets the new version.
Can it read a Google Doc or a Google Sheet?
Yes, if the file is shared so anyone with the link can view it. The AI never signs in to Google, so a private file, or one shared only with named people, cannot be read. In Google Docs or Sheets, open Share and set General access to Anyone with the link.
Can my team of 3 enter the cup? Rules: docs.google.com/document/d/1xYz...

Teams need 4 or 5 players, so a team of 3 cannot enter yet. One substitute is allowed, and sign-ups close on Friday at 18:00.
For a sheet, it reads one tab: the one the link points to, or the first if the link names none. Copy the link while the right tab is open.
Sheets are where links you taught it pay off. If your stock or match times change every day, training the AI on today's numbers teaches it numbers that are wrong tomorrow. Teach it where the sheet is and when to check it, and it can open the live sheet when someone asks. How to train an AI ticket bot covers the teaching.
Training on a page
- Reads it once and keeps what it learned
- Works with Web access off
- Suits facts that rarely change
Web access to a page
- Reads it each time it is needed
- Needs Web access on
- Suits facts that change daily
What does it read from a YouTube video?
The details, not the video. For a YouTube link it reads the title, the channel, the length, the publish date, the view count and the description. For Vimeo, the title, the creator, the length and the description. It does not watch the picture, hear the sound or read a transcript, and a link straight to a video file is not read at all.
So it can say which video a link is and what its description says. It cannot answer "what does he say at minute four". If a video holds steps your members need, write them out and train the AI on the text.
How do you turn Web access on or off?
One switch for your server's AI. You need Manage Server. It is on by default.
Open the setting
On the dashboard, Settings, then the Your AI in tickets card. In Discord, run /ai settings
Find Web access
It reads Let the AI search the web and open links
Switch it
Turn it off or on. It applies to the next answer
Test it
Paste a public link in a test ticket and ask about it
The switch covers everywhere the AI answers: tickets, AI FAQ channels, /ai ask, the dashboard chat and the website chat. If you turned web search off before October, Web access is off too: same switch, new name.
What does Web access cost?
A search has a fixed price. A link does not.
Web access and the AI allowance
- One web search
- About 5,000 tokens, on any model
- Searches in one answer
- Up to three
- Opening a link
- No fixed charge
- A long page
- Uses more, because the AI reads more text
There is no separate bill: it all comes out of the same AI allowance. On a small allowance searches add up, and when it runs out the AI pauses until it resets while tickets keep working.
If your server runs on its own AI provider, the provider bills the answers, including the pages the AI reads. Web searches are the one thing that still uses your plan, because the search runs on our side.
When should you turn it off?
When you would rather the AI say it does not know than answer from the open web. Turn it off if every answer must come from your own docs, if your allowance is small, or if you do not want the AI opening links members paste.
Turning it off does not stop you training the AI on a website or a document. It does not stop the AI reading files a member attaches, or the channels of your own server that member can see. It only stops searching and opening links.
Is it safe to let an AI open links?
It treats every page as someone else's writing.
- It opens only public web addresses, never a private network
- What it reads is marked as other people's writing, not instructions from you
- After reading a page, it cannot delete memory or change its instructions in that same answer
- Nothing it reads in a ticket is saved to its memory
- The site sees a visit from our AI service, not from your member
So a page written to trick a bot, with a line like "ignore your rules", cannot rewrite what the AI knows. If a link will not open, the AI says so and answers from what it knows.
For a private system, such as your order database, Web access is the wrong tool on purpose. That is what custom AI tools are for: your system decides what the AI may see.
What Web access will not do
The honest list.
Good fit
- Answers public, current questions your notes cannot cover
- Reads the docs, sheets, PDFs and pages members paste
- Reads a page as it is now, not a stored copy
Not the right call
- Cannot sign in, so private Google files and members-only pages stay closed
- Does not watch or listen to videos, and reads no transcript
- Does not click buttons or fill in forms on a page
- A page that builds its content in the browser can come back empty
- Very large files are read only from the start
- Sites that block automated readers stay blocked

Frequently asked questions
Yes. AI Ticket Bot's AI searches the web when nothing your staff taught it answers a question, for example whether a game's servers are down today. It runs up to three searches for one answer, and only the search terms leave, never the conversation. The setting is called Web access, and it is on by default on every plan.
AI Ticket Bot can, when Web access is on and the document is shared so that anyone with the link can view it. A member pastes the link, or the link is part of what you taught the AI, and the AI reads the document's text before it answers. It never signs in to Google, so a private document cannot be read.
Yes. With Web access on, the AI reads a public Google Sheet as rows and columns, one tab at a time: the tab the link points to. It reads the sheet as it is when the question comes in, so it suits data that changes often, such as prices, stock or match times.
No. From a YouTube link it reads the title, the channel, the length, the publish date, the view count and the description. From a Vimeo link, the title, the creator, the length and the description. It does not watch the video, hear the sound or read a transcript, so write down anything members need from a video and train the AI on that text.
There is no separate bill, and it is included on every plan, Free too. Each web search uses about 5,000 tokens of the server's AI allowance, on any model. Opening a link has no fixed charge: the text the AI reads is part of that answer, so a long document uses more than a short page.
Turn off Web access. On the dashboard it is in Settings, in the Your AI in tickets card. In Discord it is in /ai settings. You need Manage Server. The AI then cannot search or open links, but you can still train it on websites and documents, and it still reads files members attach.
