Discord Ticket Button Not Working? Every Cause and the Fix
A Discord ticket button that does nothing, says This interaction failed, or a panel you cannot see. What each message means and who can fix it.

Start by pressing the button once more and reading what appears just above the message box. A refusal from the bot is shown only to you and is easy to miss.
What does each message mean?
Find your message in this table. The wording is from AI Ticket Bot. Other bots say the same things in other words.
| What you see | What it means | Who fixes it |
|---|---|---|
| "This interaction failed" | The bot did not answer Discord in time | Wait, then staff |
| "The application did not respond" | Same, for a slash command | Wait, then staff |
| "You've reached your ticket limit" | You already have a ticket open on that panel | You: close the old one |
| "We're closed right now" | The server only takes tickets in its support hours | You: come back at the time shown |
| "Tickets unavailable" | You are blocked from opening tickets on that server | Staff |
| "Category full" | The ticket category holds 50 channels already | Staff |
| "I'm missing a permission" | The bot cannot create the channel | An admin |
| "Panel out of date" | The panel was made by an old version of the bot | An admin: make a new panel |
| "Category not found" | That ticket type was deleted | An admin, or pick another option |
| "Could not create ticket" | Discord refused the ticket for another reason | Try again, then staff |
| A form pops up | Not an error. Fill it in and submit | You |
Each of the member rows has its own guide: the ticket limit, support hours and a full category.
Why does it say "This interaction failed"?
Because the bot did not answer Discord within about three seconds. The message comes from Discord. The bot never sent anything.
Three situations cause it:
- The bot is offline or restarting. The most common cause. It passes by itself, usually within minutes.
- The bot was removed from the server. The panel message stays behind and its button has nothing to talk to.
- The bot is slow at that moment. An outage at the bot or at Discord.
"The application did not respond" is the same thing for a typed command such as /ticket open.
What to do as a member: wait a minute and press once more. If the bot shows as offline in the member list, the problem is on its side. Many bots have a status page. Ours is at /status and shows outages and their history. If it still fails after a while, tell the staff in a public channel. They may not know.
On AI Ticket Bot, panel buttons keep working after the bot restarts, so an old panel is not broken just because it is old. What happens when a ticket bot goes down covers outages from the server's side.
Why can you not see the panel or its button?
Usually because embeds are switched off in your own Discord settings. A classic ticket panel is an embed: the box with a coloured bar on the left. With embeds off you see the bot's name and an empty message, or only the buttons with no text.
Open User Settings
The cog beside your name
Go to Chat
Under App Settings
Turn on embeds and link previews
The option that shows website previews and embeds in chat
Go back to the channel
The panel text should now be there
If the whole channel is missing, that is different. The server hides the panel channel from some roles, often until a member has verified or accepted the rules. Finish that step, or ask staff where tickets are opened.
On a phone, also check that the app is up to date. Panels in the newer layout, with pictures and buttons inside one box, need a recent version of Discord to display.
What can an admin do when the button fails for everyone?
Press it yourself. The bot tells you which of four things is wrong.
- The bot names a missing permission
- Grant it on the bot's role, then check the ticket category has not denied it. Manage Channels, Manage Roles and Embed Links are the usual ones
- It says the panel is out of date
- The panel is from an old version. Publish a new one
- It says the category was not found
- A ticket type on the panel was deleted. Edit the panel and publish again
- Discord says the interaction failed
- The bot is offline or gone. Check it is still in the server, then the status page
Embed Links is the surprising one. If it is removed from the bot's role, the bot cannot give that permission to a member inside a ticket, and Discord refuses the whole ticket. The bot's message names it.
To post a panel again on AI Ticket Bot, open /panel, pick the panel and press Publish, or press Update Discord in the dashboard's panel editor. It edits the existing post where it can, so the message keeps its place in the channel. Ticket bot permissions has the full list and the role order trap.
One case to know: if the bot was removed from your server for more than 48 hours and added again, its old panels belong to settings that no longer exist. Their buttons can answer "Category not found". Delete those messages and publish a new panel.
What the bot does not do when a button fails
The honest list, for AI Ticket Bot.
Good fit
- Every refusal comes with a reason, shown to the member who pressed
- A missing permission is named, so an admin knows what to grant
- Buttons keep working after a restart
- A failed ticket does not count against the member's ticket limit
Not the right call
- Staff are not told when a member is refused. No log entry, no alert
- When the bot is offline it cannot explain anything. Discord's message is all you get
- It cannot fix a member's own display settings
- An old panel left by a removed bot stays in the channel until someone deletes it
The first limit matters most. A broken panel is silent on the staff side, and members often give up without saying anything. Whichever Discord ticket bot you run, press your own button now and then, the same way you would test a doorbell.

Frequently asked questions
Either the bot answered with a private message you may have missed, or it did not answer at all. A private message means the bot is working and is refusing for a reason, such as a ticket you already have open or support hours. No answer, or This interaction failed, means the bot was offline, slow, or the panel is an old one. Only the server's staff can fix the second kind.
It is Discord's message, not the bot's. It appears when you press a button and the bot does not answer Discord within about three seconds. The usual causes are that the bot is offline, restarting, or was removed from the server while its old panel stayed behind. Wait a minute and press again. If it keeps failing, tell the server's staff.
It is the same problem for a slash command. You ran a command and the bot did not answer in time. It usually means the bot is offline or having an outage. Try again in a few minutes and check the bot's status page if it has one.
If you see the bot's name with an empty message under it, your own Discord has embeds turned off. Open User Settings, then Chat, and turn on the option to show embeds and link previews. If you cannot see the channel at all, the server has hidden it from your role and only staff can change that.
It is the bot that is missing one, not you. The bot needs permission to create the ticket channel in that category and it does not have it. On AI Ticket Bot the message names the missing permission. Show it to a server admin, because only they can grant it.
Press the button yourself and read the message. If the bot names a missing permission, grant it on the bot's role and on the ticket category. If the panel is old or was posted by a bot that was removed, publish the panel again. On AI Ticket Bot that is the Publish button in /panel or Update Discord in the dashboard.
